Henry A. (Hal) Davis is a researcher, writer and editor, working primarily in financial services and corporate finance. His specialty is explaining complex financial and business issues in terms that can be clearly understood by a wide audience. He combines proven experience in research, writing and editing with a broad knowledge of financial services gained through a top MBA program plus more than 50 years of professional experience.
Mr. Davis has written and co-written 15 books published by the Financial Executives Research Foundation, Euromoney Books, John Wiley & Sons, and Amacom Books; served as the editor of four books published by Euromoney Books, Institutional Investor Journals and the Treasury Management Association; written 12 business school case studies in corporate finance for the Darden Graduate Business School at the University of Virginia; written three white papers for Washington-based industry, trade and professional associations; and written more than 50 articles for professional publications.
Hal served as editor of the quarterly professional Journal of Investment Compliance (Emerald Publishing, UK) from 2005 to 2021, editor of the Journal of Structured Finance (Euromoney Institutional Investor) from 2004 to 2015, editor of twice monthly newsletter Insurance Finance & Investment (Thomson Reuters) from 2008 to 2013, managing editor of the quarterly Journal of Project Finance (Euromoney Institutional Investor) from 1998 to 2004, and managing editor of the quarterly Strategic Investor Relations (Euromoney Institutional Investor) from 2001 to 2003.
Hal is a graduate of Princeton University and the Darden Graduate Business School at the University of Virginia. He began his career at Bankers Trust Company and Bank of Boston, where he gained experience in commercial lending, credit analysis and non-credit services. He later worked for two consulting firms, the Globecon Group, a bank training and consulting firm in New York, and Ferguson & Company, a bank consulting and rating firm based in Washington and Dallas.
Hal is a director and board secretary to the Cameron Kravitt Foundation (cameronkravittfoundation.org), which sponsors seminars at six medical schools to help pediatric and obstetric resident doctors deal with patients and their families in catastrophic situations like the loss of a child at birth. He is a member of the board of directors, the finance committee, the audit committee and the partner congregations committee of Friendship Place (friendshipplace.org), a Washington, DC-region not-for-profit organization serving homeless people, and a member of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. He is an accomplished photographer, former runner and occasional marathoner.
